4 Tuesdays: October 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th
Learn the skills that make any painting possible by understanding the building blocks of painting: value, form, color, and technique. Quickly grow your skill, understanding, and the beginnings of your own style through fun, simple, guided lessons. No matter your experience, you’ll leave feeling inspired, capable, and ready to paint with oils.
If you’re ready to build the underlying knowledge used in painting, and finally pick up a brush to have fun creating when feeling inspired, this is your place to start!
These classes are open to all levels of experience. Expect guided demos, personal feedback, and optional assignments to continue practicing at home. Class Schedule:
Light and Form: Make studies of objects applying value scales to study how light falls over forms. Practice edges, blending, and clearly seeing lights and darks.
Color Theory and Mixing: Learn about the spectrum of colors and how to color match with ease. Color theory isn’t scary or complicated- its a recipe book we will map out! Finish class with a still life to put your skills from class 1 and 2 together.
Depth, Detail, and Atmospheric Perspective: How do you make a painting look like it is in proportion? We will cover easy rules of space and create a landscape painting to practice tricks for painting distance, detail, and a painting you could walk into.
Expressive Style and Brushwork: How you apply your paint is the icing on the cake. Do you enjoy soft blends and realistic detail, or chunky brush strokes with bold energy? Work from instructor led examples, or bring in an artwork you would like to learn from with individual guidance.
Join our October cohort to enjoy some creative community!
Recommended age 14 and up. Minors to be accompanied by adults with their own tickets. Here is a guide to oil painting safety- we will go over this in class as well.
*Prepare a space in your car to take your paintings home- it will still be wet to the touch as oil paintings take a long time to dry. You can lay it flat in the trunk with our newsprint, or bring a brown paper grocery bag to store it in during transport
