Learn the skills that make any painting possible by understanding the building blocks of painting: value, form, color, and technique. Quickly grow your skill, understanding, and the beginnings of your own style through fun, simple, guided lessons. No matter your experience, you’ll leave feeling inspired, capable, and ready to paint.

If you’re ready to understand how paintings actually work and finally create what you envision, this is your place to start!

These classes are open to all levels of experience! Expect guided demos, personal feedback, and optional assignments to continue practicing at home!

Lessons will be demonstrated in gouache. Materials will be provided for use in class. If you prefer to bring your own supplies in your medium of choice, feel free!

January 13th - Sculpting Light

Learn how light falls over forms to create the appearance of three dimensional space in a picture plane. Complete exercises to practice value, blending and blocking, then complete a mini painting applying skills.

January 20th - Capturing Color

Learn how to master color mixing by understanding the characteristics of color. Practice different ways to modify color before working on color matching. Finish class with a study to understand how light illuminates color.

January 27th - Expressive Style

Start class with guided practice to break away from copying what you see and into finding your personal style. Finish class with independent practice working on a painting of your choice with instructor assistance and feedback.

Located in the interior of Tyler Station- enter 3 doors down from Oak Cliff Brewery.
